White Spotted Fruit Chafer

Description:

This guy was birdkill (which is why it has no legs). The bird fled when I arrived at the scene, giving me oppurtunity to photograph this guy, since I'd never seen it before. Iridescent green shell, spots are white and hairy and looked like fungus, but then I noticed they are symmetrical. And yes, I left it where I found it. Gone after five minutes. UPDATE: (11th Oct '13)....The South African white spotted fruit chafer is a pretty close match, though the exact species may be different.

Habitat:

Found in an urban environment, just after the first rains of the season.

I thought of it being a beetle too, but I have zero knowledge in that area, so I went with marking it as unknown.
