American Goldfinch

Carduelis tristis

Description:

The Males visits many flower heads to find a ripe one. They tend to bump each other off frequently. He feeds, then hands off the ripe flower head to the Female. She tends to stay on that flower head and eat. The Male stands, and watches nearby. After He hands off, he pecks near His feet. I observed Females eat from the same flower from 10-20 minutes if undisturbed.
