Coccidia Oocyst

Description:

Microscopic intestinal parasite of many animals. Coccidia may cause diarrhea, sometimes bloody, most often in puppies and kittens or kenneled animals (stressful environment) or immunosuppressed animals.This particular one was found in the feces of a puppy that was having diarrhea. They are species specific and there are more than one species that can infect domestic dogs and cats. Some are identifiable by the shape and size of the oocyst. This parasite is spread through the feces of infected animals (fecal-oral, infected feces contaminated food or water).

Habitat:

Intestinal tract of a domestic dog.

Notes:
