Tauraco porphyreolophus

Description:

Large (some 45 cm in length) crested bird from Turaco family (Musophagidae). Easily recognised by a purple crest, green iridescent head, and a red eye-ring around their eyes. Their bills are black. The neck, chest and belly are reddish brown and greenish. The rest of the body is purple, with bright red flight feathers (seen as a flash - photo No 6).

Habitat:

Usually seen in tropical and subtropical forests; here observed in rural setting of Harare - high in canopy.

Notes:

Just arrived in Harare; and this was my first recorded spotting (and a lifer)...
