Coragyps atratus
Black vultures are frequently seen at various locales in the state, as are turkey vultures (Cathartes aura). The black vulture can be identified by its "featherless black head, short tail, and distinctive white 'wrist' patches" visible on the the underside of the wings. They hold their wings nearly horizontal and frequently "fly higher than turkey vultures, following and watching them from above."
Perched atop a defunct grain silo in Lake Springfield Park (Springfield, Missouri).
