Fox Squirrel

Sciurus niger

Description:

This little guy was causing some trouble this morning I was out by my window-seat looking out of the window with my camera watching a flock of doves eat when this little guy scared them off. This is one of the most crafty of all animals they are pretty smart. They are called Fox squirrels because their teethe are in a similar position of that of a fox. They are often trouble causing and are in some cases like my case annoying for some birders. I couldn't help it Squirrels have to eat too you know.

Habitat:

Wooded areas, parks, and lakes.

Notes:

I have a lot of feeders for birds and I am not a fan when these things tear them apart. In the last year or so my family and I have put out feeders for the birds and some like our tube feeder have become damaged because of the squirrels trying to get food. The squirrels hate safflower seeds so if you have the squirrel problem like me use safflower their are plenty of interesting birds that like safflower. The squirrels are very crafty on occasions we've almost had vehicular accidents trying to dodge these little guys. Some people just have no mercy and kill them on purpose, some by mistake. The squirrel is one of the only creatures I know that cant be easily detrude they will chew up a feeder faster then anything. They are real smart they can yes their tiny front claws to rip the bottoms of cheaply made finch or perched tube feeders. This little guy was at the feeders but got startled and ran for the tree behind him. He thought it was much safer for him there.

No problem Daniele glad to be of assistance. I am going to start adding notes to all my sightings because it might help others when encountering they encounter them or just to share my life experiences with the world we share with each other and the animals. Glad I could help.
