Yellow-striped Army Worm

Spodoptera ornithogalli

Description:

About 35mm long

Habitat:

Vacant lot with mostly clovers and grasses.

Notes:

I found this caterpillar under a piece of wood. The ground was bone dry under the wood, but I suspect it provided the caterpillar with enough shade to survive the hot, dry weather we've been having.
