Sonoran Desert Toad

Bufo alvarius

Description:

Another critter enjoying the insects that are attracted to the house by our lights. They emerge from the ground during the summer rainy season. Their parotid gland secretes a toxin that can be dangerous for dogs that mouth them. Too bad I didn't have the flash on for that last shot. It would have been a charming pose.

Habitat:

Desert scrub
