These butterflies are mimics of Pipevine Swallowtails. It is believed that Pipevines and other Swallowtails taste bad to predators. This butterfly has coloration similar to them in an effort to deter predators.

thank you! it was close to the Pipevine and the Spicebush but without the orange spots on the bottom of the wings.
