laurel sphinx caterpillar

Notes:

This little big lovely creature caught me by surprise one day. When I first saw it, I had bent down to pick it up as I thought it was from one of our bird houses which coincidentally have perches on them that are almost identical to this worm. When it moved, I just laughed and scurried to get my camera.....He/she was then safely transported to our herb garden, our little haven for our unusual creature finds.....

The tomato hornworm - aka five-spotted sphinx - (Manduca quinquemaculata) has a bold white, sideways "V" shape down its sides. I'm not sure if I see that on your caterpillar. Several other sphinx larvae have the diagonal white lines along the sides.

Hmmm, Belinda, I thought for sure it was a sphinx caterpillar but now Im not so sure as you're right, it looks like a tomato horn worm also....gosh I hope not though, dont want him eating all my tomato plants :) Thx for the input :)
