Hognose snake

Description:

A very lively hognose snake that was hooded and hissing a lot.

Habitat:

Found by a small creek under a rock in late spring.

Notes:

This snake was a very cool snake and it was found while looking for scorpions under rocks by a little creek/drainage pond.

Jemma, they just try to scare of predators by being big (flaring of the neck) and hissing. If that doesn't work, they play dead. Many snakes can and will shake their tail rapidly to hit leaf litter to mimic a rattlesnake, but that isn't super common for this species. They are most noted for just playing dead.
