Spiny-waisted Ant

Aphaenogaster tennesseensis

Habitat:

woodlands

Notes:

When I ripped the bark off of an old stump I inadvertently disturbed a colony of termites and spiny-waisted ants. The ants then staged an all out attack against the termites. As you can see here, one ant grabbed a winged female termite and drug her off.
