Native to Panama, El Salvador, Nicaragua, Costa Rica, Mexico, Surinam, French Guiana, Bolivia, Colombia, Peru, Ecuador, Venezuela, Honduras, Guatemala, Paraguay, Brazil, Argentina and in Trinidad and Tobago.

In this case I am confident that is is once not the famous Morpho peleides, which is actually Morpho helenor peleides. So, with Morpho helenor you are definitely on the safe side. Personally I would tend to Morpho helenor marinita, but without a dorsal shot and considering the sometimes doubtful sources of the pupae and lazy changing of the ID-labels in butterfly houses I would not bet my ranch on it.

It's a captive one, Dan - we do not have those species here wildly.
Nice Lars. It's not often I see a butterfly from you. Not sure of the ID though for European species.
