Saunders Case Moth or Bagworm larval stage

Metura elongatus

Description:

A longer collection of small twigs held together by threads of silk and encasing a silk bag with a grub inside, this is attached to a tree trunk by silk as well until the tenant decides to move itself and home (the case) by crawling part way from the bag entrance and slowly creeping along carrying its home. Slightly different from earlier spotting as there are several twigs that are longer and this characterises a different species.

Habitat:

Found throughout Australia in a variety of habitats, this one in dry woodland on native trees.

There's so much to the insect world - wonder how much we walk past and don't notice because we didn't look closely enough?
