Basak or Vasaka

Justicia adhatoda

Description:

Shrub. White flower with a central design. Looks like an orchid but definitely is not.

Habitat:

By the side of a pond adjoining a field and by the side of a busy national highway. It was deep inside bushy weeds.

Notes:

Medicinal used in coughs and cold. I have a plant growing in my garden and use the leaves to brew decoction...I have NEVER seen it blooming in my garden. To think I never recognized it. I was so taken in by the flower...I never looked at the leaves...I am mortified.

Thank you, Nuwan. I failed to recognize the leaves of a plant that I have in my own garden...I feel terrible. But THANK YOU.
