Thirteen-lined Ground Squirrel

Ictidomys tridecemlineatus

Description:

A small ground squirrel, sandy yellow in color with thirteen alternate brown and whitish stripes on the back.

Habitat:

By the shores of Lake Michigan. These prefer open habitat such as meadows and prairie.

Notes:

I got these photos by accident. I was at the top of Little Point Sable Lighthouse and saw something moving on the ground. I used my telephoto lense to see what it was. I guess taking pictures of squirrels from 100 feet in the air is actually effective.
