Fly Fungus

Entomophthora muscae

fungus on a dead fly

dead fly

We like to think we are in control of our minds, but that's not true for this unfortunate fly. It all started when the fly, buzzing around, accidentally picked up a fungal spore. The fungus grew inside the still living fly. The fungus took over the fly's brain. The fly was forced by the fungus, to bite down on a blade of grass. A few minutes later the fly's wings shot up. The fly died. The fungus came out of the fly to make spores.
