Common Kingfisher

Alcedo atthis

Description:

A little larger than most sparrow, this fast little kingfisher darted down the waterways in the mangroves trying to keep ahead of our boat or perhaps leading us further away from the bank where his nest was, not sure. But it worked.Love the light blue dots in the darker blue feathers of the wing. Red feet!

Habitat:

Such a huge range means that they have many habitats, but we saw this one in the mangroves on the coast of Ream National Park where it meets the Bay of Thailand, near Sihanoukville, Cambodia. A blue gem flitting arounds the corners and then perching to see if we were still there!

Notes:

Even little light blue dots in the dark blue feathers on his head!
