Giant Blue Robber Fly

Blepharotes splendidissimus

Description:

A large black robber fly. The body is broad and covered with short hairs and long legs. It has sturdy black legs and the wings are dark coloured. In flight it makes loud buzzing sound.

Habitat:

Noticed this flying in my back yard before landing on a branch of a tree in my back yard where I took the photos posted here. (I generally see one of these in my garden once or twice a year)
