Lubber Grasshopper

romalea microptera

Description:

Large colorful grasshopper. About 2 1/2 inches in length. There is nothing graceful about this slow creature so it is a good thing it is toxic.

Habitat:

wetland vegitation

Notes:

This one is an adult. Lubbers can secrete foul chemicals no doubt derived from the plant matter they ingest. Slow, clumsy insect.
