These caterpillars sometimes called loopers walk by arching their back and tucking their hind legs (actually not legs, but claspers) up behind their three pairs of true legs. They then clasp the branch and the front end stretches forward, grasps the branch and they can walk quite fast by this method of 'inching' forward.
