Jewel beetle/ Metallic wood boring beetle

Euchroma gigantea

Description:

Can someone PLEASE tell me the name of these bugs, they look like scarab coloured cockroaches. I've seen these bugs on very few occasions so I guess they're pretty rare. While I was photographing a pond I just got an urge to bring my camera over to some trees nearby, and I found one, soon i realized there were two of them...and I even got amazing HD mating footage.

Habitat:

Large trees

Notes:

They seem VERY sensitive to sounds and movements (about as responsive, or even more responsive than roaches I'd say)

yes, I have seen a couple of them, but never with my camera in my hand. You are very lucky!

Lol thanks, I always wanted to photograph one of these bugs, and when I was photographing something else and just wandered off end ended up finding these two mating it was as if something called me there.

Also thanks Aaron_G 'jewel beetles' seem a likely fit

Looks like a Buprestid beetle (aka metallic wood-boring beetle). This one is a real beauty!
