Wild Sarsparilla (berry phase)

Aralia Nudicaulis (Ginseng family)

12 in. Hemispherical, 2 in. clusters of tiny greenish white flowers under leafy umbrella. Single leaf divided into 3 groups of ovate, toothed leaflets. Blooms: May- July

Pondsides, wet forests

This plant is in its "berry stage". The flowers have gone by and the berries have ripened from green to a dark black or blue colored berry. I will post a picture of a plant during the flower phase in another siting. This particular plant is among many other wild sarsparilla in the Bangor City Forest.
