Ladybug Larvae

Coleoptera coccinellidae

Description:

four legs....black body w/orange markings.....

Habitat:

found on milkweed plant in my garden

Notes:

Dragonfly under construction? I've been watching for about four days now; first saw when this critter was about as big as a dot. In this picture, I think it's eating an aphid.

You are welcome Elaine, you can check this post, http://www.projectnoah.org/spottings/128... , to see how the next stage of development looks. It can vary in coloration depending on species and how close to complete. You are correct, it is eating a milkweed aphid(Aphis nerii).

Thank you for the ID! It really does resemble a miniature alligator. I'm hoping to be able to watch it change from larvae into a ladybug.

Ladybug Larvae, remind me of tiny alligators. :)
