Three-toed Box Turtle

Terrapene carolina triunguis

Description:

About a 4 inch size. Red eye and face markings.

Habitat:

A wildlife habitat garden near Lake Lewisville.

Notes:

In the spring these turtles migrate across our peninsula. We had some rain this week and it apparently triggered them to return. It crossed the street and then started in the drainage swail which was the easiest path to the water.
