Cookeina speciosa

Cookeina speciosa

Description:

The first cup fungus I've been fortunate to observe in my mushroom adventures. These were all spotted (hard to miss a bright orange object in a predominantly dark-brown and -green place) in a jungle-like area in Palenque, Tabasco, Mexico, Earth, and each one fascinated me to no end.

Habitat:

Occuring oftenly in groups, sometimes solitary atop the thin layer of humus in the area.

Notes:

Not sure about the identification, even though the description matches this find spot-on; using a field guide to mushrooms of the United States on a Mexican fungus is not a wise choice, but it appears to have been common enough to be keyed out in the book anyways.
