Hypocysta metirius
A brown butterfly with a large bright orange comma shaped pattern on each hind wing. Each hind wing also showed a black eyespot with a thin orange rim and a thin orange line along the trailing margins.
The paler underside showed two eye spots and a thin white line along the trailing margins and a single small pale ring between the eye spots.

Wing span was about 30 mm.
Spottted in regenerated land with casuarina trees and other natives, beside a lagoon - Narabeen Lagoon, NSW.
This species of Hypocysta has been spotted flying around with at least two other species and it is difficult to differentiate between them when in flight.
Larvae feed on common sedges and grasses.
