Atlantic Menhaden

Brevoortia tyrannus

Description:

Small fish with mostly silvery coloration. Small greenish stripes on dorsum. Golden coloration on tail and on head. This fish was found in the grass some ways away from the water source at this park. I believe a bird dropped it and lost it. It was deceased but recently as no insects had arrived yet.

Habitat:

Bayard Cutting Arboretum, Islip, New York.

Notes:

My first fish! Sorry it was not alive.

Doren, I do believe you are correct, from what I can find. Thanks! Sorry for the delay in response.

Looks a bit like a young menhaden, also known as bunker.
