Fly. Black with red coxa (part nearest to the body)

Habitat:

Water hyacinth on lake in urban residential area. Could not go closer or I'd have landed in water. Also stiff breeze made focussing difficult.

Yeah, I didn't have time to read the whole article either, just the paragraph on "freshwater predators."

Thanks Tukup. The reference is solid! I have just glanced through it. It will take a little longer for me to get some quiet time to read it properly..but from what I read....the heartfelt realization is...I know so little! Life is too short!

I was curious if they actually kill snails so I dug a little. A very interesting article here: https://agsci.oregonstate.edu/sites/agsc... If you want search for the phrase "Freshwater predators". That's a revealing paragraph. Thanks for sharing Sukanya. It's always great to learn about nature, even half a world away.
