Blinded Sphinx Moth

Description:

Family: Sphingidae, Subfamily: Smerinthinae. Medium-sized to large sphinx moth with scalloped wings. HW has blue-filled eyespots (not shown). TL 35-50 mm (This one small) Light brown FW has darker brown and violet shading. Thick black bars and lines and one black spot on wing. Hosts: Deciduous trees including basswood, willow, birch and poplar.

Habitat:

Open woodlands. Attracted to light.
