Yellow Palm Dart

Cephrenes trichopepla

Description:

Largest Palm Dart. No sex brand in male. Distal patches on fore wing extends towards the outer margin along the veins. Has a black patch on hind wing fold on under side, which is usually hidden.

Habitat:

In a newly plowed rice field.

Notes:

Feeds on flowers of bushes and attracts to bird droppings as other Palm Dart. This is not a native species. It probably came to Sri Lanka through importation of various ornamental palms from East Asia or Australia.
