Ladder-backed Woodpecker

Picoides scalaris

Description:

Most Ladder-backed Woodpeckers will have a red crown. Barred back and tail. Black head with white stripe above and below the eye.

Habitat:

spotted in a riparian of cottonwoods and willows.

Notes:

This was confirmed since it could only be this or a Red-naped but there was not wide white wing patch and the facial markings were not right. Sorry for the poor quality but it was high up and far. Hard for me to be quiet walking over leaves and twigs. Someday I will hopefully get a better shot.
