Dog-faced Bell Moth -2

Acroceuthes metaxanthana

Description:

An attractive Tortricid moth about 10 mm long with pale tented-up wings. The fore wings show dark brown patterns that come together to look like a St Bernard's face when the moth is at rest with wings closed (Pic 1). A small tuft of pale setae can be seen on the body between he base of both wings. When disturbed, the moth spread its wings to expose a small but thick abdomen.

Habitat:

Spotted resting on an Agapanthes plant.

Notes:

Previously spotted in February last year http://www.projectnoah.org/spottings/931... but the photos were quite unclear. This is for records only. Family: Tortricidae
