A worldwide community photographing and learning about wildlife
Xanthocephalus xanthocephalus
Males are black with yellow hoods while the female is mostly brown with a yellow throat and breast.
The yellow-headed blackbird is most at home in the reeded marshes and wetlands of the western United States.
Even though these are primarily western US birds, some have undertaken winter migrations to the US east coast with some numbers flying as far a northern Europe and Iceland!
