Brown-Headed Cowbird (Juvenile)

Molothrus ater

Description:

This little guy seemed very helpless. It was a warm day on a field so he was seeking shade from us, so he'd get quite close. He was not deterred by us following him or approaching him. He followed us even. Eventually when we reached for him, he took off in flight, but it was a comic take off. Is he a baby bird? Maybe learning to fly? He was alone.

Habitat:

On a sports field. Flew into one of the trees near the road.

Yes that is a juvenile. Brown-Headed Cowbirds are brood parasites. They don't make their own nests they just lay their egg in the nest of other birds hoping for that bird to incubate and then raise their young.
