White-Spotted Boxfish

Ostracion meleagris

Description:

Skittish by nature, boxfish will preform a little "dance" with you. They usually turn to look at you and pause for a brief second. They they will quickly move to another opening in the coral. If you make it there first they will look at you and then quickly turn away. Boxfish are one of my most favourite creatures to observe in the ocean. They have such a unique way of moving around, not to mention usually vibrant colours.

Habitat:

Coral Reef. Usually found in, amongst, and underneath coral. Saw this one at Sombrero Island.
