A worldwide community photographing and learning about wildlife
Sciurus carolinensis, Meleagris gallopavo silvestris
In the photo above, an eastern gray squirrel and a wild turkey can be seen feeding in the same area. Although the wild turkey can reach a length of 3-4 feet, most squirrels are only about 12 inches long. Wild turkeys can be easily recognized by their bright red wattles, large stature, and fan-like tail feathers.
Both wild turkeys and gray squirrels can be found in the forested areas of the eastern United States. These individuals were spotted in a backyard in Fairfield, New Jersey.
This photo serves as a great example of two different species coexisting in a peaceful, nonviolent matter.
