Short-toed eagle

Circaetus gallicus

Description:

Wings long, broad and pale; underparts pale and barred. Head and neck look rather dark, almost pointed in shape; tail often shows dark terminal band. Often hovers, scanning ground for snakes.

Habitat:

Favours open hillsides and maquis. Summer visitor.

Notes:

First time I've seen this bird, and there were 3 of them. Made my day! :)
