Jungle Myna

Acridotheres fuscus

Description:

Medium-sized bird with a crest behind its beak which to my eyes look like a moustache. Yellow beak and legs. Blackish-grey in colour...darker in colour than the common myna and not chocolatey like it. White patch on wing is common to both.

Habitat:

Electric line just outside my house. I snapped it from my terrace where it had fed on the fruit put out. Urban residential area.

Notes:

These mynas are not as common as the common myna or Indian myna (Acridotheres tristis) but this year a pair has raised a chick and I sometimes see the family together. The chick is almost fledged now.
