Thankyou RobSheddon. I've looked it up online and your very close. Tent Catepillars makes their nests in the nodes and branches, this fits the description of a Webworms nest who is very similar but encloses it's nest around the leaves and end of branches. Unfortunately though according to wikipedia and these are both native too America. This spotting was taken in southern France. The mystery continues but we're on the right track I think. Any other idea's out there?
