Burton's Legless Lizard

Lialis burtonis

Description:

Lots of different patterns, we saw some with longitudinal stripes, some without any stripes, some with facial stripes like this one. Very cool lizard to see.

Habitat:

Prairies and savannas.

Notes:

Its a lot like the Ophisaurus we have in the US, a lizard that's lost its legs through evolution because moving through grass is easier without legs to get in the way. I thought it was really neat to see so many color patterns on the same species in the same area.
