schinus longifolius

Schinus polygamus (molle)

Description:

I am not 100 % sure, but the description matches the observation, so I placed the name meanwhile... It is a quite common evergreen tree which can grow quite big (the one in the picture was about 2 and 1/2 m heigh and about 2 m of width). It has white yellowish flowers although at the moment the picture was taken, the flowers had been already substituted by the small purple fruits.

Habitat:

This kind of tree may be found in Uruguay, Brazil, Argentina, Paraguay and Peru. It is a very resistant tree.

Notes:

It is sometimes used for medical purposes.

Definitely, it is not Schinus longifolius. The photograph depicts a specimen of Ligustrum lucidum, an exotic species in Argentina, introduced from China, highly invasive and with detrimental effects on native plants, as it does not allow growth of seedlings below its canopy.
