Parus cinereus mahrattarum
This bird used to be a sub-species of the Great Tit, Parus major but has now been defined as a separate species with a distribution from the Indian Subcontinent and Sri Lanka east to Thailand, southern China, Indo-China, Malaysia, Sumatra, Java and Borneo.
The main visible difference is the grey mantle (olive-green on the Great Tit) and a buffish, greyish or white underside (yellow on the Great Tit).
The Sri Lanka sub-species has a very broad black ventral band running up to the throat.
For more concise distribution and sub-species details refer to the latest edition of the Clements check list (see references).
