Dolichovespula maculata
Black color with light yellow spots..a wasp or hornet of some sort..
On the cherry tree in the back yard and with a huge paper nest the size of a volleyball.
This one came down after I sprayed and bit the grass blade you can still see in its mandibles.. The stinger is half out for a shot to whatever was close...
I did not see their nest until my son pointed it out.. I took care of them quick with some dielectric type of spray.. I have a 3 year old daughter who loves the yard..
I know of their type, I just had no time to research the species.
Thanks a lot.
Hi Nicholas, this is a Bald-faced hornet. Take care around the nest, as these are very aggressive and will attack repeatedly anything that invades their space.
