Long thin black tail. Strong beak and body build. No color, just shiny black/purple. Can't find it in my books. Can someone suggest an ID?

Yes, indeed. I think you are 100% correct, maybe the angle and the sun has hidden any white, or as you say immature. I looked up other images and there are a few darker ones. Brilliant tail this one has compared to other Shrike. Thank you very much Malcolm.

My first thought looking at the bill was a Shrike, maybe immature Magpie-Shrike, the adults have normally visible white patches.
