Stinkhorn

Description:

About 4-5 inches high, approx 2 inches thick.....cream colored stalk with a dark cap with a hole in the center......beetles were in the middle of the mushroom at the base of it......

Notes:

Found this outside my living room window one day when walking around my yard......quite strange for me as I had never seen anything like it and when I tapped it with my foot it moved like it was an animal......come to find out if I have it correctly identified, it has beetles in the inside that feed off it and thats why it moved. Before the spotting, I was smelling this awful smell around the window it was by and always thought the kids had spilled milk in my living room and it had spoiled. Now that this is gone, so is the smell so I guess it lives up to its reputation.......
