Pitta versicolour
Brightly coloured bird, males and females similar, size to 21cm. Ground and canopy dweller feeding on insects, grubs, berries and forest snails (the shells broken open as the bird smashes them on something hard usually a specific 'anvil' that is used regularly. Stocky body, short tail, call is a drawn out wook sound repeated in sets of 2 usually.
Found throughout eastern Australia usually in rainforest areas, moist gullies.

Great spotting. For anyone who has tried getting a decent image of any Pitta, it is not often easy. Well done on this one.
