Polygonia satyrus
Flying around a fish viewing spot in the hills surrounding Ashton, ID near Mesa Falls.
I may be wrong, since I'm not familiar with the Western US Butterflies. But, according to my Sibley's Guide to Butterflies of the US, summer Question Mark Butterflies (P. interrogationis) lower wings are almost entirely dark, and the "tail" has a silvery outline.
The Satyr Comma's main field mark is the stripe along the lower margin of the lower wings, bordered with lighter stripe.
It's best to use the underside of the Polygonia's wings for a definite ID, since to topsides are so confusing.
