Coppersmith Barbet

Megalaima haemacephala

Description:

The bright red crest of this bird makes it rather distinctive amongst the peepal tree. It has yellow green feathers and a very vivid call. It has fast furtive movements quite unlike the crow, the kite and the cuckoo with which it is sharing this tree.

Habitat:

It stays at an extremely quiet corner of the trees and I read in wikipedia that it eats winged termites and that may just be true as it is generally found near a certain termite infested abandoned room.

Notes:

I'll be keeping a look out for the nest which is a hole cavity dug in the tree. The ficus tree which is a few meters ahead is a good spot for feeding of this bird as well
