Yellow Jackets

Vespula spp

Description:

12-16 mm long, body stout slightly wider than head. Abdomen narrow where attached to thorax w/short waist. Head, thorax, & abdomen black & yellow. Wings are smokey.

Habitat:

Y. Jackets came to tent of Tent Caterpillars which I had opened up. They repeatedly flew in & carried off the caterpillars, (reportedly to feed larva. In Cushing Mem. Park in Canton, Ga 30114

Notes:

Female Yellow Jackets can repeatedly sting! If you see 3 or more at same place & time, be careful as you likely are close to their nest!
